About FromNine

AI, software and cloud for Europe, Malta included, built by 2,400+ people.

FromNine is an engineering firm. Its fields are AI, enterprise software and cloud. Ministries, public entities and companies in Malta and in other EU Member States rely on us to design their AI systems, build them and keep them in operation. AI sets the direction, and delivery follows the standard that critical systems require: tested, documented and with someone clearly answerable for their behaviour.

Our teams in Antwerp, Ghent and Amsterdam work for organisations in Malta and across the EU.

The name

Where the name FromNine comes from

A company name ought to tell you its purpose. Ours does so in two ways.

Two ideas sit inside the name. One is the working day that our systems have to carry; the other is the landscape of existing systems they have to join.

09:00

From nine in the morning

At nine the day’s work begins properly. Officers in a public entity open their case lists, accounts teams start their processing, members of the public log in through servizz.gov to submit a request, and engineers look at what ran during the night.

That is when a project turns into something people count on, and it is the hour we have in mind when we design. Forget the Friday afternoon demonstration: think of Monday at nine, with real users, real data and consequences that matter.

3 × 3

Nine nodes on one line

The FromNine logo shows nine nodes in a grid, connected by one unbroken line. Each node is a component an organisation must bring together: data, models, applications, platforms, integrations, cloud, security, people and operations.

The line is the engineering that joins them, one considered turn after another. It finishes at a single highlighted node, which is one system working in production. Trace the line and you will see that it forms a nine.

FromNine means both: the first hour of the working day, and nine loose parts brought together into one system that does not give way under pressure.

Who we are

AI first, on a base of engineering discipline

Ministries, public entities and companies in Malta and across the EU come to FromNine to have AI systems, enterprise software and cloud platforms designed, built and operated. Our 2,400+ people allow us to put together teams that cover AI, software, cloud, data and platforms, and to keep each team intact for the whole life of a programme.

Putting AI first does not mean using it for everything. Each engagement starts with one question: where would AI genuinely change the way the organisation works? Then we build it to the same standard as the systems around it, which means tested, monitored, governed and properly handed over.

The public sector taught us this discipline. On 600+ public-sector projects for public bodies in EU Member States, accessibility, security and accountability were conditions, not wishes. Our private-sector clients, from banks and insurers to manufacturers, get the same standard.

How we work

The four principles we work by

  1. Built for operation

Our AI is meant for production, not for a demonstration. Dependable software, data access, security, monitoring and an operating plan are part of the scope from day one.

  2. Linked to your core systems

AI is worth only as much as the systems it can reach. We work with your existing CRM, ERP, data platforms and applications, and integrate with them carefully rather than replacing what already works.

  3. Responsible from the design

From the outset we decide where a person must approve, where AI may act alone and how every decision is traced. The GDPR and the AI Act shape our designs, and we speak openly about the limits of AI.

  4. Scale and continuity together

A large firm’s capacity, combined with a team that has delivered together before. As far as possible, whoever designs your system also builds it and hands it over.

Credentials

Certification and partnerships

Behind the name stand a certified information security management system and formal partnerships with the platforms that our clients use.

Information security

ISO/IEC 27001

Our information security management system holds ISO/IEC 27001 certification, the international standard for managing information security. As part of your due diligence you may ask us for the certificate and its scope.

Platform partnerships

Being a partner means our Salesforce, SAP and Odoo teams work inside each vendor’s partner programme. The status labels are those that each vendor uses.

Salesforce, SAP and Odoo are trademarks of their respective owners.

Where we work

Several offices, one method

We have no office in Malta. Our teams work from Antwerp, Ghent and Amsterdam, in the same time zone as you, and serve Maltese clients from there, as we do clients in other EU Member States.

In Ghent, new ideas are tested before they are used

Ghent houses the FromNine hub for innovation and development. New AI and engineering methods are tried there on realistic problems before any client sees them, and development teams produce the components that delivery teams across FromNine rely on.

We keep innovation down to earth. An idea is only taken up when it survives the tests, reviews and security requirements that apply to all our other work.

  • ExploreFresh techniques for AI, agents and platform engineering, tried on realistic cases.
  • ProveEvaluation methods, reference architectures and reusable components are built, tested and written up.
  • ShareWhat works becomes common practice for the delivery teams in all offices. What does not work is recorded as well.

Trust and compliance

Security, data protection and oversight, built in from the start

Public entities and regulated companies, such as MFSA licence holders, rely on us with sensitive data and with systems behind real decisions. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to.

  • Information security

    Certified

Our information security management system is ISO/IEC 27001 certified. Least-privilege access, secure development and security testing belong to our normal delivery, rather than being a check at the end.

    ISO/IEC 27001 certified

  • Personal data and the GDPR

    How we work

Personal data falls under the GDPR and the Maltese Data Protection Act (Cap. 586). Purposes, limits on access and retention periods are settled before building starts, and a data processing agreement covers any processing we carry out for you.

  • AI governance

    How we work

We design with the AI Act in view, covering risk classification, documentation and human oversight. Agents run with limited rights, approval points and complete logs.

We help you see which duties could apply to your use case, including towards the MDIA or the IDPC, and we supply the technical evidence your advocates need.

  • Accessibility

    How we work

Accessibility is required from the first design onwards, not tested for at the last minute. Our interfaces are designed and tested against WCAG 2.2 level AA, with automated checks and manual review using assistive technology.

  • Data kept within the EU

    Per engagement

Our designs keep data within the EU. Hosting locations and access limits are fixed with you before building begins, with sovereign options if your obligations demand them, and hosting and AI services are selected to match without tying you to one vendor.

This section explains our way of working. It does not declare compliance on your behalf, since your obligations depend on your organisation and on the use case.

Malta

Maltese rules within the EU framework

Malta follows the common EU baseline, but with its own laws and its own authorities. The GDPR applies alongside the Data Protection Act (Cap. 586), supervised by the Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC). The AI Act is enforced with the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) as lead authority. NIS2 is in force through the NIS2 Order (S.L. 460.41), with the CIP Department as competent authority, and the European Accessibility Act through S.L. 627.03.

Maltese rules then settle the details, from e-invoicing to Government over Peppol to procurement on ePPS. We build these into the design from the beginning.
